This image of St Peters Cathedral in the Vatican was printed and then photo transferred onto wood then tinted to create an antique aged look. By printing the image at such a large scale and then splitting it up over several small squares the artist hoped to bring attention to the small details within each square the things that can sometimes be overlook when you are seeing such a large image. It can either be displayed as a large image or with all the small panels separated out to the viewers liking.
